Ed Woods

Animal Wrangler, Former Director Billie Swamp Safari
Ed Woods is the former director of Billie Swamp Safari, the Seminole Tribe of Florida’s eco-heritage wildlife park located on their Big Cypress Reservation in the Florida Everglades.

During his time as a director of the park, Woods oversaw all aspects of park operations and a staff of more than 100.  In addition, he oversaw the daily operations of the Swamp Water Café and Big Cypress RV Resort.

In 1992, Woods started working for the Seminole Tribe of Florida and stayed with Billie Swamp Safari since its creation (February 1993.)  While at Billie Swamp Safari, Woods was behind the creation of many of the tours and programs offered to the public.

Prior to his years with the Seminole Tribe of Florida, he was a member of the United States Marine Corps where he served his country in combat and is a lifetime member of the Disabled American Veterans.

    Swamp Men

Premiering Monday, December 13, at 10P ET/PT on Nat Geo WILD.
In the Everglades’ Big Cypress Swamp, more than 1,600 animals roam wild on thousands of acres in a park run by the Seminole Tribe of Florida.  Best described as controlled chaos, the Billie Swamp Safari offers visitors face-to-face encounters with ostriches, American bison, African elan, wild alligators, venomous snakes, wild hogs, raccoons and virtually every other animal found near the swamp.  The goal is to immerse visitors in the wild, in accordance with the Seminoles’ love of harmony with nature, but sometimes these close encounters can mean trouble for people and wildlife.  It’s up to animal wrangler, Ed Woods, and his tough team of self-described Swamp Men to patrol the land, relocate animals from dangerous situations and rescue animals in need.
