Michael Cathey joined the American Veterinary Medical Foundation (AVMF) as their new Executive Director in August of 2008.  Mr. Cathey brings his organizational and program development, marketing communications, training, strategic planning and relationship management skills-especially in the area of major gift fundraising to the
AVMF and its vital mission of embracing the well being and medical care of animals.

Prior to joining AVMF, Mr. Cathey served as the Executive Director of Development for the National Safety Council (NSC), a 50,000 member organization dedicated to protecting and saving lives. While at NSC Mr. Cathey launched a completely refocused and restructured Development operations and lead the organization in successfully implementing its first ever $1 million dollar event.

For 17 years Mr. Cathey was a professional staff member of the Boy Scouts of America wrapping us his time with Scouting as the Director of Major Gifts and Planned Giving with the National Capital Area Council in Washington DC.  In this role Mr. Cathey served in a leadership role in a $13 million Investment in Character Campaign and following this launched the organization’s $50 million Major Gifts Initiative.

Mr. Cathey has also served in leadership roles with both the American Medical Association Foundation and the National PTA.

Mr. Cathey holds a Bachelor of Science degree from the University of Oklahoma.  He is a member of the Association of Fundraising Professionals, the American Society of Association Executives, and the National Committee on Planned Giving, the Association Forum of Chicago and the Association Foundation Group.
