Feeding the Itchy Pet
Got a pet that itches, bites, scratches, chews, licks or just putz with itself all the time? You swear that it doesn’t have fleas. You have tried lotions, potions, and shampoos. Your veterinarian just gives you pills and pokes your pet with injections of who knows what and the skin issues persist. The answer must be in the diet. At least that is what all the pet parents at the dog park and pet store sales folks are telling you. So does your pet have a food allergy? Is grain and gluten free the answer? Or should you feed organic, holistic, or maybe raw?
My guest is Dr. Alice Jeromin, a pharmacist, a board certified veterinary dermatologist, adjunct professor at Case Western Reserve University College of Medicine, international lecturer and author.
BIO:
Dr. Jeromin graduated from the University of Toledo College of Pharmacy in 1977 with a B.S. in Pharmacy. She worked as a hospital pharmacist at Marymount Hospital and Cuyahoga Falls General Hospital for 8 years before attending The Ohio State University College of Veterinary Medicine, graduating in 1989 with a Doctor of Veterinary Medicine degree (D.V.M.). She became a board certified veterinary dermatologist in 1993 after a residency with Dr. Patrick Breen, Diplomate ACVD, Cincinnati, Ohio. Her grant-funded research dealt with Sebaceous Adenitis in the Standard Poodle. She is an adjunct professor at Case Western Reserve University College of Medicine, past president of the Cleveland Academy of Veterinary Medicine, a member of the Cleveland Dermatological Society, American Veterinary Medical Association, Ohio Veterinary Medical Association, Summit County Veterinary Medical Association, Ohio Veterinary Medical Association’s liaison committee with the Ohio State Board of Pharmacy, and a member of AVMA Council on Biologics and Therapeutic Agents. She continues to teach and lectures both locally and internationally and is a contributing author to DVMNewsmagazine
