BIO:
Laurie Routhier
Chief Executive Officer
Laurie Routhier has dedicated more than 25 years to animal welfare, guided by her belief in compassion, community, and purpose. Laurie's partnership with Muttville's founder and CEO, Sherri Franklin, began decades ago when they served together on San Francisco's Animal Control and Welfare Commission. Their shared commitment to improving the lives of dogs led them to co-author the landmark backyard dog ordinance, which established the city's first minimum care standards for dogs living outdoors and provided meaningful enforcement tools. This foundation of shared values and advocacy has shaped their strong leadership partnership at Muttville.
Laurie joined Muttville in 2014 and has played a central role in the organization's transformation into one of the most respected senior dog rescues in the country. As Chief Operating Officer she led major program and systems development, strengthened cross team collaboration, and helped guide the creation of the Forever Home campus. Her leadership has supported measurable gains in adoptions and a deepened focus on joy, purpose, and community engagement across all programs.
Laurie is known for her clarity, her people first leadership, and her ability to build teams that work together with purpose and heart. She has served on multiple civic commissions and committees and is often invited to speak about humane leadership, organizational culture, and transforming sheltering through community engagement.
Laurie remains focused on strengthening Muttville's programs, expanding its impact, and ensuring that older dogs receive the dignity, comfort, and new beginnings they deserve. Her long-standing partnership with Sherri has been instrumental in shaping Muttville's vision and success, and she continues to help guide the organization's evolution with unwavering commitment and care.
