Michelle Fern on Pet Life Radio

Emotional support pets can help support depression, Alzheimer’s, autism, anxiety and other mental health issues. Interacting with a cat that is purring can help lower blood pressure. While there is controversy in the world today about the benefits of emotional support animal, there is scientific research showing the benefits to the people who have them.  Michelle Fern chats with Heather Gibson, owner of Elevated Cattery, which breeds emotional support Tonkinese and Balinese cats.

BIO:

Hello, Im Heather and I am the owner of Elevated Cattery.

I have always been a pet person and love being around animals. I didn’t think about getting a purebred cat until I adopted children that needed a lot of extra touch and affection. After some research we bought three purebred Burmese kittens which became the light of our home.

They were so affectionate, playful and followed us around the house. When we went to buy our next kitten, the breeder asked if we would be open to having a litter and seeing if we liked it. We loved it! 5 years later we are still loving it and have learned so much on our journey.

After one Burmese girl I switched to breeding Tonkinese because I found they had a very similar personality type but I loved the variation in coat and eye colors. I worked hard and learning everything I could to have the healthiest kittens available.

I also realized that many people had loved ones that needed the extra love and support that pets can bring to people struggling with emotional issues so I learned more about emotional support animals and how to socialize kittens.

Today my whole family is involved in the socialization of our kittens. My 12 year old daughter at times will get upset and says she can’t talk to me but she can talk to the kittens. My kids gain so much from their interactions with the kittens and the kittens gain so much from their time with my kids.

We love what we do.

Our goals are and will always be health first, personality and then beauty.
