BIO:

Julie Castle has dedicated her life to saving animals. Starting at Best Friends Animal Society in 1996 as employee #17, the now-CEO is leading the movement to make every shelter and every community no-kill. As she rose through the ranks, Julie set high goals and achieved them. This included growing Best Friends’ fundraising by nearly 50 percent to reach an all-time revenue high of $130 million annually in her tenure as the marketing, communications, and development leader. It was in that role, too, that Julie put the stake in the ground on behalf of Best Friends to take the entire country to no-kill.

Julie is a staunch believer in the importance of culture and innovation within a workplace, and her focus on those areas has resulted in numerous awards for the organization, including Top Workplace of the USA and Most Innovative Company from Fast Company. Julie herself was also celebrated by InStyle Magazine as one of 50 Badass Women who “show up, speak up and get things done,” and as one of CNN’s Champions of Change in 2024. She leads her staff of nearly 1,000 employees to find their passion in order to create a better world, and continues to lead the no-kill movement to achieve its mission of saving every dog and cat in a shelter who can be saved.
