Brother Christopher is a Monk of New Skete, an Orthodox Christian Monastery based in the foothills of the Taconic Mountains near Cambridge, NY.  Over fifty years ago, The Monks of New Skete, inspired by their German Shepherd, Kier, began this path of stewarding their beloved best friend that then led to one of the most deeply connected positive training philosophies in the world.   

Before entering monastic life, Brother Christopher attended the University of Southern California, Georgetown University, and St. Francis University earning his degree in philosophy. After graduation, he entered monastic life at New Melleray Abbey, then at Trappist monastery where his deep attraction for the Christian East led him join New Skete, an Eastern Orthodox monastery in Cambridge, NY.

At New Skete, Brother Christopher was asked to head the dog training program after serving as the director’s assistant. Brother Christopher believes that his experience with dogs has revealed much about the scope of God’s mysterious presence in the world.  Brother Christopher is now a world-renowned dog trainer and a principal writer, author, co-author for the Monks of New Skete books: In the Spirit of Happiness, Rise Up with a Listening Heart, I & Dog, Dogs and Devotion, The Art of Raising a Puppy, Bless the Dogs, and the revised edition of How to Be Your Dog’s Best Friend.

In January 2014, Brother Christopher was elected Prior of New Skete. In this role, he leads in the governing of the Monastery.
