How To Prepare for a Cat-astrophe

Michelle Fern on Pet Life Radio

This week Michelle Fern is joined by Monica Stevens, Co-Founder of Jameson Humane.  Jameson Humane seeks to find permanent and loving environments for animals in need, helping save animals from euthanasia, sickness, and abuse.  They also discuss how to prepare for your cats should disaster strike, whether it be a fire, earthquake, hurricane, flood or any type of emergency situation.

Founded by Monica and David Stevens in 2014, Jameson Humane (Jameson) is an impact-driven nonprofit organization focused on animal welfare. Located in Napa Valley, California, Jameson sits at the epicenter of a variety of natural disasters including wildfires, earthquakes, as well as floods, and now the COVID-19 pandemic. When it comes to preparing for a disaster, Jameson does everything in it’s capacity to help pet guardians prepare for if/when disaster strikes, with the ultimate goal of keeping animals safe and with their families. This work does not just occur in Napa Valley, but encompasses the Bay Area, with support also having taken place across 24 states.

From providing resources, such as crates and other essential supplies, to financially assisting with veterinary costs, distributing food and water, and even finding temporary shelter and urgent fosters, Jameson ensures no animal is forgotten both during a disaster event and in normal times. Jameson's work is guided by how animals, the environment, and the community are all inextricably connected and we're here to bring awareness to disaster preparedness and guide you through what it is like to go through a disaster with your animal by your side. Specific to how cat guardians can prepare with their cats for the event of a disaster, including what to prepare, and steps to take to ensure cats and their human guardians can stay together during a time when they need one another the most.
